When I first started this blog, I posted my inspiration for our winter wedding and how I became a reluctant winter bride. There were a few specific things that really swayed me into thinking a winter wedding would be just as beautiful as any other season {an inspiration board from Style Me Pretty, a crystal tree from Enjoy: The Blog, and a gorgeous fur coat from Knottie TarHeels&Rebels}. It has come time to make some decisions regarding the coat.
When we first started looking at gowns, I was sold on the idea of wearing a vintage fur coat in a brown or sable color. My mom and aunt didn't hold back and neither did the sales girls saying that they didn't like the brown at all. The seamstress who is altering my wedding gown, also creates faux-fur coats and stoles. I tried on one of those and liked it. So I decided I would go with ivory.
That is until I saw this fabulous black faux-fur jacket on photographer Anne Ruthmann's blog.
AHH! This is pretty much the exact design I had in mind, but in black. And I LOVE IT in black. I think it would be the perfect tie-in to the bridesmaids dresses and tuxes. Plus, there would be a possibility I would wear it again. However, my mom still doesn't love it which has me second guessing myself. What do you think? Black or ivory?

In my opinion...ivory and faux fur all the way!

The ivory would make you stand out in pictures. Something to think about... Would you wear it again after the wedding? If so, go with the one that you think you'd wear more often. They're both gorgeous!

I'm partial to the white because I think it's so romantic and I love winter white. The black looks really cool in pictures, too. My favorite winter photo is of Kate Hudson at her wedding to Chris Robinson in a big white coat over her white gown and it is so romantic. Neither choice is a bad one at all because they're both gorgeous!

i think they're both nice. personally my vote is for the ivory. my mom has an ivory rabbit fur that i've pined over forever so i guess i'm biased. but i definitely think you'll be able to wear them both again, i just think the ivory is a little bit fancier and therefore will look nice with your wedding dress and will look great with any other dress after.
can't wait to see your pictures!

I agree either will look great, and I'm biased, too, but the other way--I have my great-grandmother's dark brown/black mink coat and I love the way it looks with my gown because of the contrast with the dress. I wear the coat a lot to formal functions but I don't feel like I would have worn it quite so much if it were white or ivory since those colors stand out a lot more.

My vote is for the ivory. It's just so classic and "bride-y"! I love the idea!

Ivory all the way!

ok, i am gonna go against the grain here and say black! :) It looks great in those pictures, and will be such a contrast to the dress. I think Ivory is very pretty, but black is very cool :)

i love them both but the black has a unique look to it that is so classic... you can't lose!

I think the black is so classic and pretty (and practical!)...I have an ivory "fur" coat and it looks dirty ALL THE TIME.

I love the black! So classic.

I'd agree the black would be a better choice!

The ivory is best but black would be an interesting contrast. Thank God you are not afraid to wear a fur in the colder weather. Bless you and your future.

Followup to the previous:
My wife has a black mink, and a black fox.. Should you choose black, even after the wedding you will find your black fur to be so classic and versatile --- eBay can provide you with a wealth of choices. Choose wisely and you will enjoy your purchase for years to come. And for heaven's sake please don't be influenced by the obscene tactics of PETA. Wear it in god health.. and ..
Stay warm.

Hi - I'm also getting married in December, and have been going over this decision for the last two months! I found such nice vintage stoles at an antique stall but would rather wear faux fur. I bought this from Coast and they also have it in ivory and light brown - http://www.coast-stores.com/fcp/product/-/ALLAccessories/Camilla-Faux-Fur-Shrug/7766376780

I'm on the fence with this one too. I'm getting married in February and I have like 3 different faux fur jackets/caplets and Ican choose from, but everybody is swaying me to hold out for the ivory. My mom is a seamstress so she's gonna make me an opera jacket with fuchsia lining. But I'd say stick to your guns and go for what'cha like.

Thanks for sharing these photos, my shrug is just like the one in the first lot, so it's great to see. My advice would be to see if you can try both kinds on with your dress which feels best to you.

I'm an Indy winter bride too and I'm doing the same thing with my BLACK jacket. Mine will be velvet but I think the black is classic and different from what everyone will expect!!

Go with your gut! I know I'm late in the game discovering this entry, but I wanted to wear a black sash with my wedding dress and my mother was so discouraging about my veil, sash and any jewelry I wanted to wear that I didn't end up wearing any! I snuck the sash into a few photos after the wedding and reception, and they're my favorite, and the photos without, I just feel like my dress looks a little blank. I wish I had just followed my own instincts for my day.
