Nick and I are having engagement photos taken this weekend. I scheduled the appointment a few weeks ago because he wants them taken while it is still nice outside. I'm hearing that this summer the heat and humidity in Mississippi will be nearly unbearable. Well, those few weeks have definitely caught up with me and yesterday he looked at me and said, "What am I supposed to wear?" Oh crap, I forgot about him! Haha. I've been looking at photographer's blogs {Bobbi and Mike, etc.} for inspiration, but I need a bit more than that! This is where you come in {again}. I hope I am not abusing our blogship by asking for all of this advice!

I bought this dress from Banana Republic a while back {minus the belt and shoes, I'm not sure what shoes I'll wear yet}. We'll have two outfit changes–one dressier and one casual. I think I want Nick to wear a polo or button down and jeans for both. He's not really a dress slacks/fancy outfit kind of guy. However, I don't know what color shirt he should wear? My photographer mentioned red because it is a complimentary color, but all I can think of is mustard and ketchup and McDonald's. So red is out. Any other ideas? Colors? Should he wear khakis? What did you wear? {If you even had engagement photos taken?} I'm hoping our shoeru Molly will share her advice?
I also need to figure out our second outfits; post forthcoming with possible options!
What about the basics, black or white? And do you really think ketchup and mustard when you look at the above picture? I think "vivid bursts of color!"

Hello! I am an avid reader of your blog and when I saw your dress I immediately thought of the couple at these blogs. I believe that is the same dress. I think that blue and yellow, or green and yellow would look fantastic. better than red and yellow. in my opinion.

i'm really no help with what to wear but i really like that dress. anything with pockets is awesome.
i would wear white or some other light color with it rather than black if you want the pics to come out springy.

I vote for him to wear blue. I think it would look beautiful with your yellow dress. If he's not a dressy guy just have him wear nice jeans. Michael work them for ours and he looked great.
Have fun! We had a blast taking ours.
PS - blue shoes to go with his blue shirt? Just a thought :)

So funny! I'm in the exact same boat right now! Kyle is totally not a dress up guy either. My photographer's told us to be comfortable. I was thinking about dressing him up a bit but it's just not his personality! I love the blog links Jenna posted. It was very refreshing to see the unique styles of the two couples in the pictures. I've been overwhelmed looking for 'plain' shirts but I'm missing the whole idea of engagement photos... to show everyone our true personalities!
As for his shirt, blue would look great with your yellow dress! You could also do gray or black. I would do either a polo or even a nice, plain t (I just got a great red washed one from Banana for Kyle to wear). A cute pair of red flats would be cute with your dress and would tie in the blue and yellow. Or simple flip flops. I love them and am taking them for mine! Remember you can dress everything either up or down with your choice of accessories.
I’m doing Kyle in jeans for both too with me in a dress and jeans for the other.
Have fun!

I wore a dark yellow/gold shirt similar to the color of your dress, and my fiance wore a sage green polo, and they looked really great together - especially since we took a lot in the grass and trees.
I think gray and yellow look awesome together, and the gray isn't as heavy as black would be (plus, yellow and black make me think of my high school mascot - Hornets - yuck...)

The color wheel is your proverbial oyster with that dress. I vote for blue, brown, gray, or even a nice green.

I personally love this outfit. I love how nothing really goes together, yet everything looks perfect and effortless. the color was fine and great style. thanks for the post.
